Ravens are inspirational survivors, messengers in the air.
They ask us that we pay attention, they are a reminder of how brief life is and how we all feed on each other one way or the other. Recycle, start over, reuse. It’s how our earth does it and although I don’t really want to die anytime soon, I know it is a constant presence. Death one day takes you back to recycle, not a big fanfare, just a fact. Gigs up. I have a great affection for these big burly guys, smart as flying monkeys they are. They know how to live off of death.
“Greeks believed that the white raven was the bird of Apollo – the God blackened the bird’s white feathers as it had revealed secrets. Ravens and crows are considered sacred in many cultures.
In Hindus, after the death of a loved one, families prepare the departed individual’s favorite foods and feed it to the crows and raven god. If a raven eats/touches the food, it means that the departed soul is happy and will rest in eternal peace.
Native elders believed that the raven had the power to draw secrets from the Shadows. Their ‘songs of the raven’ were supposed to be a symbol of temptations, especially sexual ones.” -From World Birds, Joy of Nature. Now when I hear them crocking I can hear the sexiness.
