A little fall macabre piece. It's that time of the year again, where the fabric of life get stretched thin like a membrane.

I have always been fascinated by the extra eyelid some birds, mammals and reptiles have.  Sometimes I wish I had one, with all the pollen and crap  in our air.  We humans just have a sad little vestige of it in the corner of our eyes.  I learned that many sea mammals, camels and birds sport their eye wear.  It is a good idea.

The third eyelid is like built in goggles, protecting the eye from the harshness of the world.  You have to be patient to see a  bird blink their special eyelid, which moves horizontally across the eyeball.  In painting one caught in the act of using its nictitating membrane, I realized it looks like it might be blind.  They say that love is blind, and thus the wedding band.  I know, it’s a bit like free association, but I have heard it’s a free country.
