“When a turtle looks in your face, it is an intense concentration. You just feel like you’re being blasted with this wonderful focus.” -Sy Montgomery, author of Of Time and Turtles: Mending the World Shell by Shattered Shell.
Yes, I painted a painted turtle portrait. I thought to myself I would never be able to do it in a day, but I did. Hardest thing for me is knowing when to stop, and doing dailies helps me because I set a deadline. For those of you who know me, procrastination is something I have. It started in grade school, mostly because I didn’t want to do boring work, and then I got used to cramming for tests. I have had a lot of practice by now, and I have gotten much better at managing time.
Turtles will always be in my heart. For many years, people dismissed them as having low intelligence because they have small brains, but they embody patience and fortitude. They seem to be old souls, and they are some of the worlds most ancient vertebrates. They have been around as long as the first dinosaurs, over 250,000,000 years. They have long lives and those that are old (by old, I mean over 100) have organs that are indistinguishable from the teenagers of the same species! Turtles are beautiful people.
