Judgement

Judgement

Fenrir's two offspring, Skoll and Hati, according to legend, will devour the sun and moon at Ragnarök. As I look at the sky today and all the pictures people are posting on my fb feed, I can’t help but think of those wolves in Norse myth.

People used to live in co-existence with wolves for centuries;  not only did wolves rarely show themselves, they helped farmers in japan and other places control deer, wild boar and other problem animals. Cubs were raised and were used as hunting partners. They were even worshiped in Shinto shrines. Imagine that, worshipping the beleaguered wolf.

In Japanese mythology wolves are often judges of humans, being able to tell who is a good person and who is a bad one. In other cultures and stories around the world, wolves are equally a judge of character. This one looks like she is thinking, well, what did you expect? Sapiens aren’t so wise after all, they destroy their one and only home and disrespect the sacred circle of life.
