A Peck on the Cheek

A Peck on the Cheek

Jackdaws are a type of small corvid found in Europe and Asia, and they are just as clever as the rest of family. They are tool users and shiny object collectors, and have figured out how to live among hominids and thrive. The intelligent, friendly nature of the jackdaw has led to it being quite popular through history as a pet. They have quite an interesting vocabulary, are easily tamed, are extremely faithful and, it seems, might even be trained to fetch sticks!
They mate for life, and often sit next to each other, preening. Both are devoted parents, as well. This couple I painted is about to begin beak massage, one pulling gently at the other. We all need a little loving.
